COVID-19: Dealing with the Crisis

By Walt Maclay, Voler Systems

Life is being disrupted for many people and businesses by the adjustments to deal with the COVID-19 virus. At Voler, these disruptions are minimal due to our normal business model to set up all staff to regularly work from home when not at the client or in our lab. As a result, your project will be only minimally impacted. We are addressing on a case-by-case basis how to handle those times when people need to work together or with your people. There are ways we can do this safely.

Our business development people are also not impacted very much. They will not be visiting you in person for now, but they will remain in contact by phone, email or teleconferencing with business as usual while they work from home. If your business is facing unexpected issues, we may be able to help. Perhaps you need some testing done, or perhaps you have an urgent project to aid with the crisis. We are able to start new projects quickly.

Quickly prototyping New Devices for Telemedicine and Staying at Home.

Companies are rushing new products to market to deal with COVID-19. Our Universal Health Sensor Platform is a great way to quickly create a prototype of a wearable device that measures parameters on the human body.

Voler Can Help Get New Products to Market Fast

You may have a device almost ready for volume production, but it is held up needing verification testing or compliance testing. Voler can help. After design, medical devices must be tested to ensure they meet the requirements. Voler has many years of experience with this verification testing. We can ensure the documentation will meet FDA and CE requirements.

Products must meet certain requirements for emission of RF energy (EMC), electrostatic discharge (ESD), and safety. Compliance testing ensures the product meets these requirements. Voler can help you identify the compliance requirements for your particular device. We can supervise the testing, and we have very senior engineers with many years of experience fixing problems with EMC,ESD, or safety. There has been a shortage of testing facilities, and that has become more acute with the need to work at home. Voler has ongoing relationships with facilities that are still open and doing testing.

Video Conferencing Dos and Don’ts:
The Consent

By Soody Tronson, MS/JD

Video conferencing has been on the rise in the last few years. Now, with more people working remotely, it has almost become a necessity. The sale of green screens for use with virtual backgrounds has enabled adding that personal touch and customization many of us desire.

But how many of us are paying attention to the importance of obtaining consent before hitting that record button. Many U.S. states have laws requiring the consent of one or all of the parties before a private conversation can be lawfully recorded. Having people located in different jurisdictions makes it even more challenging.

Why Awareness, Rather Than Affordability, is the Biggest Barrier to IoT Adoption in Manufacturing

By Dr. Joanne Phoenix, IoT Tech News

In previous years, perceptions of IoT might have been that not only is it a complex venture, but also an
expensive one.

Arguably, this viewpoint is somewhat outdated. The cost of computing, according to The Economist, is roughly a one hundred-millionth of what it was in the 1970s. The cost of sensors used for IoT, according to Goldman Sachs, have dropped from $1.30 to $0.60 between 2004 and 2014. And, of course, operational costs have dropped too. The technology has therefore never been more accessible and affordable, however the perception of financial barriers to IoT persists.

Voler Product
Feature: XEEDA

XEEDA is a cryptocurrency hardware wallet and integrated app that provides a simple, secure, and convenient way to access, exchange, and manage bitcoins and other digital currency assets directly from your smartphone.

Voler developed the device with very high security using multi-factor authentication and built-in biometric security features. It uses a fingerprint sensor as well as a passcode. All private keys are secured in a secure microcontroller and cannot be transferred outside of the device. It uses EAL5 level of security using Common Criteria. It was designed to be a cold storage crypto currency device with encrypted links between the smartphone and device. In addition, links between chips are encrypted within the device so that no snooping can be done on an opened device. The device also has a small color OLED display to ensure that changes to the storage were only allowed through interacting with the device display and not through the smartphone display.
