A New Voler Systems Case Study

Transforming Auxiliary Battery Design:
Creating a Compact, Stylish, and Safe Solution for Luxury Car Brand

Customer Introduction

This small startup company received a contract to provide an auxiliary battery branded for a luxury car company. They had no experience with Lithium batteries and sought an expert electrical engineering partner to collaborate on the project.

Problem/Goal

  • Developing a compact auxiliary battery solution

The device must fit the size constraints of a smartphone while leaving ample space for the battery.

  • Creating a design that aligns with luxury brand image and customers

The design should reflect the luxury car company's aesthetic standards and meet the expectations of luxury customers.

  • Ensuring safety compliance for a Lithium battery

The battery solution will comply with all relevant safety regulations, ensuring consumer safety and satisfaction.

Comparison of IoT Wireless Standards

IoT is still evolving. With every iteration comes lower power consumption, longer wireless communication, and better features. New devices can take advantage of the new technology and provide better performance. Three things must be managed in wireless transmission: the power required to transmit, the data rate, and how far you’re transmitting. Choosing the right wireless standard is important.

If your device is required only to transmit data as far as 10 meters, BLE and Bluetooth are sufficient. But IoT devices for industrial and commercial purposes, such as inventory management or wearable devices for health monitoring, may require longer-range communication, such as NB-IoT or LTE-M. If a device sends a lot of data, such as a video camera, BLE cannot handle it. High power choices, such as WiFi and LTE are required.

On the other hand, cellular wireless protocols, NB-IoT and LTE-M allow your IoT devices to transmit data to distant locations at low power. The same is true for SigFox, which can transmit data as far as 50 kilometers. But unlike cellular standards with a high data rate, SigFox can only transmit up to 300 bits of data per second.

We are having a wonderful time getting together with many of you in different cities across the country, during our “Voler Networking Tour 2023.” And if you live in the Washington DC/Vienna VA area, you are cordially invited to the next stop on our Tour, on August 16th.

This particular event will be held at the offices of our partners NowSecure, experts in mobile security and privacy. NowSecure and Voler Systems are looking forward to co-hosting a fun, engaging evening, with lots of food and drinks! No PowerPoint allowed. 😉

Please send Miguel Adao a note; he will be sure to send you a calendar invite for August 16th.

Not close to the DC area? No problem. We will be hosting networking events in Indianapolis IN on September 25th, and in Chicago IL on September 26th. In fact, we will be visiting 1 or 2 cities across the US each month, so please keep looking out for a location that may be more convenient for you!
